Gov.Fayemi names Jamiu DG BSES, Odewale as new Deputy Chief of Staff

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has
approved the appointment of a seasoned journalist
and former Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor,
Alhaji Mojeed Jamiu as the Director General of the
Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES).

In similar vein, the Governor has also named Mr
Oluwaseun Odewale, erstwhile Personal Assistant to
the Governor as the new Deputy Chief of Staff.
According to a statement by the Chief Press
Secretary to the Governor, Mr Olayinka Oyebode,
the new appointment which is in line with the
administration’s commitment to better service
delivery takes immediate effect.

Alhaji Jamiu, 45, the new Director General of the
BSES was born in Igbemo Ekiti, Irepodun Ifelodun
Local Government Area of the state. He had his
secondary school education at the Ola Oluwa
Muslim Grammar School, Ado Ekiti, before
proceeding to the University of Ilorin, where he
obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture (B.
Agric, Hons.) in 1990. He also has a Masters Degree
in Public and International Affairs (MPIA) from The
University of Lagos (2005).

He was until this appointment, the Deputy Chief of
Staff to the Governor, a position he held since June
2011. He had earlier served as the Special Adviser
on Media to the Governor between October 18, 2010
and June 2011.

The new BSES boss started his journalism career
with the now defunct National Concord Newspapers
in 1992. He also worked as an Assistant Editor,
Business with The Punch Newspapers between 1999
and 2003, from where he moved to the Daily
Independent Newspapers. He left Daily Independent
Newspapers in June 2009 as Deputy Editor (Daily)
and joined Leadership Newspapers same year as
Editor, Southern Operations.

A widely travelled journalist, Jamiu is a beneficiary
of the prestigious International Visitors’ Programme
(IVP) of The United States of America.
Odewale, the new Deputy Chief of Staff holds a
master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree in Governance
and New Technology, from the Harvard University,
Cambridge, USA; where he is also a Fellow of the
Berkman Centre for Internet and Society. He also
holds a Bachelor of Technology degree (B. Tech) in
Chemistry from the Federal University of
Technology, Minna.

Noted for his analytical and research skills,
Odewale was a consultant and Development
Practitioner to the ECOWAS Commission on
Elections, Disaster, Risks Reduction and Peace and
Security Sector Reforms (2008 to 2010). He was
Integration and External Linkages Officer at the
West African Bar Association (WABA),between 2007
and 2010. He was also a Programme Officer (Youth)
at the West African Civil Society Forum (WACSOF),
2006 and 2007.

A widely travelled activist, trainer and Information /
Communication Technology expert, Odewale has
delivered conference papers in South Africa,
Argentina, USA, Kenya, Netherlands, Niger, Liberia,
Ghana and Libya among others.
As a former Students Union activist, Odewale held
several positions in the National Association of
Nigerian Students (NANS), including serving as the
Director of Programmes and Research of NANS
between 2003 and 2004.
